Master password and pass phrase

I forgot my master password

On the unlock screen, tap Forgot master password? and enter your 12-word pass phrase. You then choose a new master password. Your pass phrase stays the same.

I lost my pass phrase too

Then no one can open your vault, not even us. That's what keeps it safe. If you can still unlock PassTower, you can't view the old pass phrase again, so write down your master password somewhere safe and keep a recent backup.

How do I change my master password?

Settings → Security → Change master password. Backups saved before the change still open with the old master password, so save a new backup afterwards.

Unlocking

Why does PassTower ask for my master password even though fingerprint unlock is on?

After a restart, every 14 days, after changing your master password, and after too many failed attempts. This helps you remember it.

How long until PassTower locks?

Choose in Settings → Security → Lock after: immediately, 2, 5 or 15 minutes after you leave the app. It also locks after 5 minutes without use while on screen.

Autofill

How do I turn on autofill?

Settings → Autofill → Passwords Autofill, then choose PassTower in Android's autofill settings. Tap a login field in an app or in Chrome, and pick your login from the suggestions.

Firefox

Firefox doesn't pass its web pages to autofill services. Turn on Settings → Autofill → Firefox, and allow PassTower's accessibility service. A PassTower button then appears next to login fields in Firefox.

Samsung Internet

Samsung Internet fills only with Samsung Pass, and doesn't let other apps see its pages, so PassTower can't fill there. Copy your username and password from PassTower instead.

Why didn't PassTower fill my password on a site?

PassTower fills only on the website saved with the login, so it won't fill on a lookalike site. If the site is genuine but has a different address, choose the login from the “possible matches” and PassTower will remember the new address.

Passkeys and 2FA

Passkeys

On Android 14 and newer, turn on Settings → Autofill → Passkeys, then choose PassTower in Android's passwords and passkeys settings. When a site offers to create a passkey, choose PassTower.

Built-in 2FA authenticator

When a site shows a QR code for an authenticator app, open the login in PassTower, and under the password, in “Built-in 2FA authenticator”, scan the code. PassTower then shows the 6-digit code and can copy it when you fill the login.

Sync and backups

How do I use PassTower on more than one device?

Open Sync and connect the same Dropbox account on each device. The first time, you'll be asked for the master password of the vault that is already in Dropbox.

Backups

Settings → Backups saves an encrypted backup file. It opens with the master password or pass phrase that was in use when it was made.

Family plan

How do I invite my family?

Settings → Family: sign in with your email, create a family, and invite up to 6 people. They get an email with a link to PassTower. The sign-in code email sometimes lands in Spam, so please check there.

Can my family see my passwords?

No. Each person keeps their own vault, and only its owner can open it.

How do I delete my family sign-in?

Settings → Family → Delete family sign-in. It removes your email from PassTower's server; your vault and the app stay as they are. See Delete family sign-in.
